Best of Times
Nostalgia Nationals
While they held a
similar event last year this was the inaugural "Beat of Times" Nostalgia
Nationals, and I must say one of the most "FUN" events that I have attended
in quite sometime. Steve LeSueur, Doug Rice and the folks at Virginia
Motorsports Park combined to put on a first rate show with a large field of
race cars, some really cool historic cars as well as beautiful show cars.
The fans were treated to good old "Southern Hospitality", which included a
free cook out on Friday evening while "Voice of Drag Racing", Jon Lundburg
regaled all in attendance with great stories of the Golden Years of Drag
racing as he got a number of the veteran racers in the crowd to share their
"Road Stories" in several of the "Bench Racing" sessions that took place
when there was a break in the action on the track. Thanks to all who made
this possible and I am looking forward to next year which I am positive will
be even better.

Jon and of
the "Pacers Automotive" Fuel Altered shares a story in the Friday evening
"Bench Racing" Session

Virginia Motorsports Park is a 500 acre, state of the art multi-million
dollar drag racing facility built in 1994 and is the largest facility of its
kind on the East Coast. Virginia Motorsports Park is located just south of
Petersburg, VA off I-85, exit 63A.
This is a beautiful facility that NHRA chose to overlook in
their schedule and were gracious host for this event.

One of the
highlights of the event was Brian Beattie's absolutely beautiful restoration
of the Jim and Allison Lee "Great Expectations" AA/FD from 1969. Jim and
Allison along with driver, Tom Raliey were in attendance with Allison taking
the seat in the Saturday afternoon "Cackle" . Hats off to Brian for bringing
this great car back to life for us to enjoy.

There was some
great action on the track too, with lots of cool exhibition runs by a lot of
the historic cars as well some close completion in the class racing that
took place all weekend.
